GO toll

The GO toll is a mileage-based toll system in Austria that applies to motor vehicles with a maximum technically permissible laden mass of over 3.5 tonnes. This includes HGVs, busses and heavy motorhomes. To use the GO toll, vehicles over 3.5 tonnes require a GO-Box. The GO-Box is an electronic device that automatically records and bills the tolls. The amount of the toll depends on various factors, including the distance travelled, the number of axles, air and noise pollution, and the vehicle's emissions. The toll can be paid either in advance (pre-paid) or retrospectively (post-paid). From 1 January 2025, there will be special rates for busses and an additional consideration of the CO₂ emission class.

Do you have any further questions or need additional information about the GO toll? We have compiled a summary of the most frequently asked questions about the GO toll for you here.

Our tip

Make sure that your GO-Box is always correctly installed and in working order to avoid having to pay a substitute toll. Regularly check the battery charge level and that it is correctly positioned on the windscreen.

Frequently asked questions - GO toll

You must provide us with evidence for the following rate-relevant characteristics:

  1. CO₂ emission class 5, 4, 3, 2
  2. EURO emission class EURO VI, EEV, EURO V, EURO IV
  3. Vehicle type bus

Please note:

  • The GO point of sale does not check any evidence! At the GO point of sale, you only need to provide the rate-relevant characteristics of your vehicle (according to the registration certificate, etc.).
  • You must provide ASFINAG with the evidence within 30 days of disclosing (declaring) or changing a rate-relevant characteristic at a GO point of sale.
  • If you provide the evidence to ASFINAG before declaring a rate-relevant characteristic, the rate-relevant characteristics are already stored when the GO-Box is collected.
  • Evidence of the rate-relevant characteristics is only deemed to have been successfully provided once you have received our written confirmation

And another tip: you can use the CO₂ emission class calculator to determine the CO₂ emission class for your vehicle and then upload the evidence to us.

Please send us a copy in any case:

  • Registration certificate of the motor vehicle

If the rate-relevant characteristics are not clearly shown on the registration certificate, please send us additional verification documents. These include, in particular:

  • Customer Information File (CIF)
  • Certificate of Conformity (CoC)
  • CEMT evidence of conformity with the technical and safety requirements for a motor vehicle
  • Conformity of Production (CoP)

You can find the reason for the substitute toll in the letter under offence type.

The SelfCare portal is your personal access to the GO toll. It allows you to manage the GO toll for your own vehicle or your whole fleet independently online.

  • To access the SelfCare portal, you need an on-board unit (GO-Box, Toll Collect OBU) that has been approved for the GO toll system.
  • The receipts you receive at the GO point of sale when you pick up a GO-Box show the Personal Account Number (PAN) and the on-board unit number.
  • You can use the on-board unit number and PAN to request a user name and password for the SelfCare portal at any time.
