Whenever work is being carried out in or around the tunnel, the speed in the tunnel must be reduced for safety reasons. This includes work inside the tunnel itself, as well as, for example, system tests of the technical tunnel equipment. Therefore, it is possible that no workers are visible in or near the tunnel during such activities.

  • Yellow means "Caution, please reduce your speed!"

  • Green guarantees "free passage" through the tunnel—just like at traffic lights in city traffic.

The Ö3 radio frequency is broadcast nationwide in all Austrian tunnels as it serves as a traffic information and emergency frequency. Additionally, other radio stations may be available in tunnels if the respective broadcasters wish to provide their services and the necessary technical infrastructure is in place. However, the capacity of a tunnel radio system is typically limited to 4 to 6 channels, which is why not all available stations can be received in tunnels.
