For eligible individuals, the Digital Annual Vignette is activated free of charge for the license plate of the registered vehicle.
No separate application in the Mautshop is required.

Free Digital Multi-Trip Cards for Section Toll

Additionally, you automatically and free of charge receive one Multi-Trip Card for the following section toll routes:

• Bosrucktunnel / Gleinalmtunnel (A 9)

• Tauern- / Katschbergtunnel (A 10)

• Brenner Autobahn (A 13)

• Arlbergtunnel (S 16)

These Multi-Trip Cards:

• are valid for 365 days,

• allow unlimited trips on the specified routes.

Important:
There is no free Multi-Trip Card available for the A 11 Karawanken Autobahn.

People with disabilities are entitled to a free Digital Annual Vignette and free Digital Section Toll Multi-Trip Cards if they meet all of the following conditions:

• They possess an Austrian disability pass with the additional entry “Unreasonableness of using public transport.”

• They are exempt from the motor-related insurance tax.

• They have their residence or habitual abode in Austria.

• The car is registered in their name as the eligible person.

Initial activation

For the initial activation of the free Digital Annual Vignette and the free Digital Section Toll Multi-Trip Card, you must contact your vehicle insurance provider.

ASFINAG's free products require exemption from the motor-related insurance tax. This exemption is not handled by ASFINAG but is verified and processed by your vehicle insurance provider.

After successful verification, the free products are automatically activated for your license plate. You do not need to submit a separate application to ASFINAG.

What applies to subsequent years?

The activation of the free products is also automatic in subsequent years, as long as all conditions continue to be met.

Only if something changes (e.g., vehicle or license plate change), you must report this again to your vehicle insurance provider.

How the query works

• Enter your license plate completely and correctly (e.g., W‑12345X).

• Do not use spaces or dots.

• Enter your license plate as shown on the registration certificate or license plate. Use a hyphen instead of the emblem (example: X-12345Y).

The system checks the license plate exactly as you enter it.

Note:
A maximum of 3 queries per device per day is allowed.

• from the time of activation and

• remains valid until January 31 of the following year.

The free Section Toll Multi-Trip Cards are valid during the same period.

• there is an exemption from the motor-related insurance tax for this person (e.g., based on a disability pass with a corresponding entry).

In this case, the free vignette and free multi-trip cards can be activated for the joint license plate.

• There is no additional entitlement for other vehicles or license plates.

Yes. When registering the new vehicle, you must contact your car insurance and provide proof of exemption from the motor-related insurance tax.

Proof can include, for example:

• a disability pass with the entry „Unacceptability of using public transport“, or

• a parking permit according to § 29b StVO (depending on the case).

If the conditions for activating the free products are met, the free Digital Annual Vignette and the free Digital Section Toll Multi-Trip Card will be automatically activated.

Basically no, a change in insurance has no negative impact as long as the conditions continue to be met.

What happens when changing insurance?

If your vehicle continues to be exempt from the motor-related insurance tax, the free products for the license plate associated with this exempt vehicle will automatically continue or be reactivated.

If:

• you possess an Austrian disability pass with the note „Unacceptability of using public transport“

• the vehicle is registered to you as the eligible person

you are entitled to the free products.

If you have a foreign license plate:
Contact us and provide a copy of your registration certificate and your Austrian disability pass (both sides).

People with disabilities can, under certain conditions, get a refund for the cost of an already purchased annual vignette if they are entitled to a free vignette.

The refund applies from the year in which the relevant entry („Unacceptability of using public transport“) was valid in the disability pass.

The price of one annual vignette is refunded per person and per year. The vignette must have been purchased for a vehicle or license plate registered to the eligible person.

Application process

You submit an application to ASFINAG and include the following documents:

• a copy of the vehicle registration certificate

• proof of residence or habitual residence in Austria

• a copy of the Austrian disability pass showing the unacceptability of using public transport or blindness

• the invoice for the annual vignette, or for a digital vignette: the product ID

• your bank details (IBAN, BIC, name).
