Verification of rate-relevant characteristics

Providing tariff characteristics correctly.
To ensure your toll is calculated correctly, certain vehicle-related characteristics such as emission class, number of axles, or vehicle type must be documented.

Here you’ll find out which documents are required and how to submit them.

All questions - Verification of rate-relevant characteristics

You must provide us with evidence for the following rate-relevant characteristics:

  1. CO₂ emission class 5, 4, 3, 2
  2. EURO emission class EURO VI, EEV, EURO V, EURO IV
  3. Vehicle type bus

Please note:

  • The GO point of sale does not check any evidence! At the GO point of sale, you only need to provide the rate-relevant characteristics of your vehicle (according to the registration certificate, etc.).
  • You must provide ASFINAG with the evidence within 30 days of disclosing (declaring) or changing a rate-relevant characteristic at a GO point of sale.
  • If you provide the evidence to ASFINAG before declaring a rate-relevant characteristic, the rate-relevant characteristics are already stored when the GO-Box is collected.
  • Evidence of the rate-relevant characteristics is only deemed to have been successfully provided once you have received our written confirmation

And another tip: you can use the CO₂ emission class calculator to determine the CO₂ emission class for your vehicle and then upload the evidence to us.

Please send us a copy in any case:

  • Registration certificate of the motor vehicle

If the rate-relevant characteristics are not clearly shown on the registration certificate, please send us additional verification documents. These include, in particular:

  • Customer Information File (CIF)
  • Certificate of Conformity (CoC)
  • CEMT evidence of conformity with the technical and safety requirements for a motor vehicle
  • Conformity of Production (CoP)

The CO₂ emission class is another tariff-relevant feature alongside the EURO emission class. The toll rate therefore also depends on how much carbon dioxide (CO₂) your vehicle emits. The less CO₂ your vehicle emits, the better it is for the environment and the lower the toll.

Vehicles are assigned to one of the five CO₂ emission classes depending on their CO₂ emissions, with CO₂ emission class 1 being the worst and CO₂ emission class 5 being the best. Vehicles with a better CO₂ emission class pay less toll than vehicles with a worse CO₂ emission class.

ASFINAG provides a customised service for determining the CO₂ emission class of the respective vehicles. With the CO₂ emission class calculator, you can determine the CO₂ emission class with just a few clicks.

Three values are required to check the CO₂ emission classes:

  • Date of first registration
  • Vehicle subgroup
  • Specific CO₂ emission value

You will need the following vehicle documents to calculate the CO₂ emission class:

  • Registration Certificate
  • Customer Information File (CIF)
  • Certificate of Conformity (CoC) if applicable
